Early Life
Kohli was born on November 5, 1988, in Delhi into a Punjabi Hindu family. His mother, Saroj Kohli, is a homemaker, and his father, Prem Nath Kohli, worked as a criminal lawyer. He has an older brother, Vikas, and an older sister, Bhavna. He spent his childhood in Uttam Nagar. His primary education was at Vishal Bharti Public School. According to his family, Kohli showed an interest in cricket as early as the age of three. He would pick up a bat and ask his father to bowl to him.
In 1998, the West Delhi Cricket Academy was established. In May of that year, his father arranged for him to meet Rajkumar Sharma. Following the advice of neighbors, Kohli's father considered enrolling his son in a professional cricket academy, as they believed his skills deserved more than just street cricket. Due to external factors, he initially couldn't secure a spot in Delhi's Under-14 team. It is known that his father received offers to transfer Kohli to influential clubs, which would have guaranteed his selection, but he rejected those offers.
Kohli eventually made it into the Under-15 team. He trained at the academy and also participated in matches at the Sumit Dogra Academy located in Vasundhara Enclave. To further his cricket career, he transferred to Savior Convent School during his ninth grade.
On December 18, 2006, his father passed away due to a brain stroke. According to his mother, Kohli's behavior changed significantly after his father's death. He adopted a new level of seriousness towards cricket, prioritized the game above all else, and dedicated himself entirely to the sport. Kohli’s family lived in Meera Bagh, West Delhi, until 2015, after which they moved to Gurgaon.
